I just hope they don't migrate to my property. I don't want to deal with them. Do you think they will bite any chickens? I sure hope not. He did say that he put poison under the coops (not where any other animals can get to it).
I think a lot of farmers are already using drones for their fields. Do you think drones would bother the cattle if it flew over them? Technology is changing so fast, so drones sound like a smart way to go.
Why in the world would rats go into chicken coops? My neighbor (about a mile away) said last year he had rats in and under his chicken coops. It was the first time he had this and he's been farming for 30 plus years. What gives do you think?
I've heard both good and bad things about using rain water to water your gardens and flowers. Do you collect rain and use it? My parents did this and I remember the number of dead bugs on the top of the barrel.
Same here Rich. We cover our garden after we rip out the plants. I think the straw helps a lot with soil erosion. We get a lot of snow every winter and I think the straw helps the soil once the snow starts melting.
We are munching on that right now! It's a total football food dinner tonight! We use blue cheese too. That's how my wife makes it. I think I would like either.
I like the idea about asking for comments or questions in your posts. We don't really advertise on Facebook but I think it's a clever idea. I wouldn't pay someone to like my stuff.
That sounds interesting but I would make sure there was a market for those items in your area. I mean you could put your feelers out and see if you get many bites. I wouldn't spend a lot of money until I knew if there was interest.
We recently bought some new land and on the land are several apple, pear and cherry trees. I really don't know a lot about these. The fruit we will get is just fruit we will eat (not sell). Is there anything we need to do right now (winter) with the trees?
My dad fell a few days ago (slipped on ice). He fractured his hip! We are waiting on an appointment from a specialist now. I'm pretty sure he will need surgery. We are fixing a room up for him at our farmhouse. He's fighting leaving his house. I really don't know what else to do because we can't...
We don't do this but we have thought about it. I know it does take a lot of electricity to keep the lights on and the heat in. I'm sure it would be pretty costly to start up an indoor farm.
I have a couple of gas powered generators. I also am not sure how effective a solar powered generator would be. I just don't know if we get enough sun to keep it powered up when needed.
I agree that milk does help with heartburn. I also think that drinking water helps keep my heartburn in check. I do take an over the counter medicine though. You should check with your doctor though, it could be something more than just heartburn.
Oh yes and I agree that they are super helpful to stop the snow drifts. I don't know if they are good for anything other than that though. Do you know if they are bad for the fields?
I inherited my farm too but I do keep adding my own funds each year. I wouldn't ever quit! I couldn't fathom letting the family down by letting our family farm down. If it started to get bad, I'd get help before it got too bad.
Ooh, a food topic! Love it! I would take scalloped potatoes and ham, that would partner well with macaroni and cheese. A lot of times I take macaroni salad or roasted potato salad.
What is the turnover of your equipment? I would imagine it depends on what equipment. I tend to trade in my ATV every 4 or 5 years. I keep the tractors longer, my newest is 8 years old. I keep great maintenance records and make sure that they are serviced regularly so I think I keep them a bit...
My family has asked for steaks on the grill for Christmas Eve dinner. Well it's hard to believe but we have no steaks in the freezer. What is the best cut to get at the butcher? It's been a bit since we bought any.
I've seen tracing of them in our barn. They won't last long though, we have barn cats. I haven't seen any in the house yet. I'm sure it won't be long though. They seem to love our old farmhouse.
