    Setting up stand for EBT

Different states have different rules, but I believe you'll be okay. I'd go ahead and apply for the permit. It's never been easier, but that might change once the pandemic dies down. Do it before there's more red tape.

    Not many eggs

Thanks for the tip, @Henderson, I'll give that a try. We eat a lot of eggs as a family. I hope they kick up production before the cold months set in.

    Purple sunflower?

I believe they're all hybrids, and I agree that they're very pretty. I also like deep red sunflowers. There are a lot more colors out there today. I hope your purple sunflowers turn out beautifully.

    Harvest blues

That's one of the reasons that I have a greenhouse. Can you get one of those? A hoop house will also extend your harvest season if you want something that's low-maintenance. You can also force some flowers to bloom inside. Most bulbs are good for this and it will bring some cheerful color to...

    Anyone canning?

We are! It's hard work, but it's worth it to have enough tasty, nutritious food to get us through the cold months. I miss canning with friends. It made it seem less like work and more like a party.

    Back to virtual schooling?

I hope not; it did not go well for us last year! I haven't seen anything on the news to suggest there's been an outbreak in my son's school or I might feel differently. He's pretty good about wearing a mask, so I hope that will be enough.

Please post your intruduction in this forum!

Hello everyone! My name is Eden and I'm a florist. I grow most of my own cut flowers and exotic orchids. My husband and I have a friendly and well-behaved son who is adventurous enough to keep us on our toes. We have a menagerie of chickens, goats, cats, and dogs. I love hearing family/home...

    Not many eggs

My chickens are still laying, but they're not as productive as they should be this time of year. Could it be the extreme temps that we've seen this month? I haven't changed their diet or anything like that. What can I do to fix this?

Do you believe in ghosts, UFOs, or anything weird?

I believe in spirits and stuff, but that's probably the Catholic in me. Last winter it snowed so much that I was ready to believe in the Abominable Snowman.

    Drill with rechargeable battery

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to The Home Depot and Lowes this weekend to see what I can find. Makita has good reviews, and they make a lot of stuff in the USA, so I might go with that. RichZ, that's sad to hear about DeWalt. Craftsman's quality has gone down too on some things. I...

    Floods!!

That's so kind of you to help them out, @Ritar. I bet they really appreciate it! I'll be thinking about you guys. I pray the water recedes soon! I hope you'll keep us updated and let us know how you're doing.

    Intercropping

I do and I highly recommend it. One thing that I always add is marigolds because they attract pollinators while deterring white flies and killing bad nematodes. Cucumbers and tomatoes grow well together. There are tons of options, really.

    Name that plant

I think it could be a tree peony. @Petal to the Metal, have you seen this question? I'm tagging you in case you know the answer. I hope that's okay.

    Drill with rechargeable battery

No, the battery degraded over time. I've been through a few. I've needed to replace some bits too. The drill is still good though. The motor still works great. I just can't buy another battery for it because they don't make them anymore. I can't say enough good things about it though...

    Drill with rechargeable battery

I've had my original Craftsman drill for over 15-years now, but they no longer make the batteries, so I'm going to have to move on. I've already tried another Craftsman, and it was a big disappointment. I've tried a Black and Decker and the battery on it is laughable. Please let me know if...

Any decently priced yet capable soil moisture sensor recommendations?

Welcome to the forum! I use them, but it's for my greenhouses and I don't think the company does outdoor crops. I do have some advice though. Make sure you get a quote in writing. I'm happy with what I got, but the guy tried to raise the price by a grand once it was finished. I already knew...

    Microwave problems

Yeah, I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill. Since the pandemic hit though, I've been more careful about business expenditures. The shop is doing great, but sometimes it's hard to reign that instinct in.

    NY Governor

@Holii, it looks like he's finally stepped down, and I'm so glad to hear it! I think after having Trump as president, lots of women and men have begun standing up to sexual harassment and abuse of power. Predatory behavior isn't okay. It doesn't matter which political party it is or which...

    New hens with no rooster

If some one-year-old hens are used to having a rooster around, is it a bad idea to add them to an established flock that doesn't have a rooster?

    Slugs!

You could try sprinkling some diatomaceous earth around. It works great on all pests. Unfortunately, it could also harm the pollinators, so I try to limit contact by keeping it on the soil and away from the blooms.
