Combines 9600 Cylinder Spiders Breaking

Per your alert---Haven't seen any spiders broken loose from the shaft as yet, but I have found several 9600 models with twisted cylinders. They've all been twisted about 1_2" with the left side leading. As nearly as I can figure, only 2 things could cause this. Inaccuracy when the keyways in the shaft were milled, or the cylinder shaft is twisted a little bit from usage, since the spiders all check out OK. Only broken spiders I've seen were in a 9500 where a cylinder filler plate came loose. Considerable other peripheral damage, also.

The center three spiders on the 9600's aren't touching the shaft. A George Kuchar out of Ill. makes a kit that puts spacers in and makes those spiders so they can't flex. He figures that when slugs go through the combines that the spiders can become damaged by this flexing. He also believes that by flexing the cylider and bars there is a certain amount of grain loss. Deere just started this flexing concept on the 9000 series combines.
