Combines AGCO parts cost

I know what you mean, what I can buy after market I do. I would say AGCO is buying a lot of parts through outside jobers , and everybody wants to make 30-50% markup or more.Do that enough times and you have doubled or tripled prices dam quick. I really like Gleaner combines but AGCO needs to get there prices under control.

I had the same issue on parts for my 8780xp. There was some hardware on the shoe that was out of this world. I complained to the dealer and he reported this to the AGCO Parts and they adjusted the parts price for the future. Try it you never know.....

R50 with Duetz engine ,took turbo off. four bolts that held turbo to manifold $24.00 each and the gasket was $25.00 . Now how many times has someone doubled there money on these items till it got to the farmer. 1-2 bucks apeice for the bolts and maybe 5 bucks for the gasket would of been more in line. PS: cleaned the bolts in glass bead blasting cabinet and cleaned up the gasket and used over! (poor people have poor ways)

Parts are not looked at by any company one at a time and then priced according to copetition. They are a fucntion of sales, volume of purchase, and inventory carrying, packaging, and shipping costs. It is a formula. Agco has over a quadzillion part they supply. When you find a part overpriced to the point of not buying it and doing the legwork to find another source, ask someone to ask for the part to be reviewed. Agco has finally got some common sense folks at Batatvia in the past 5 yrs. Oh, and for what it is worth yes Deere has some parts cheaper than Agco - they sell more machinery thus they buy more. BUT for things other than lug bolts and fast moving items you make up the difference. They catagory 'captive and non captive parts' . Captive are the ones you gotta go to them for repair$. Agco makes no such distinction. Finally one can 'nit pick' any parts you want for the above reason, a 300 plastic cover for a MF precleaner a 450 dollar front piece of plastic for a NH TS we traded for, a $1,200 little gear for a Deere etc... Again, ask for a better price and look at the average and how many parts it takes before labeling parts 'too high' for any brand. We send in price inquiries to part.pricing most every day.

Thank you for the idea, tbran. If you can get me an email address or a telephone number, I will contact Batavia. I wasn't saying that JD is cheaper overall, and the only reason my son-in-law went to the JD dealer is that they are 5 miles away while the nearest AGCO dealer is 25 miles away. The AGCO dealer with a good inventory of Gleaner parts is 42 miles away. I like my Gleaner combine and Allis tractors. And I know the dealer needs to make a profit. I felt the problem was AGCO and am glad they have a feedback system for looking at parts prices. It is folks like you who seem to really work to make AGCO better and I appreciate that very much.

Well after reading the post I probably misrepresented the parts thing. A dealer would have to send in the request with a dealer code. But that should be an every day thing and takes only a few seconds. I complain a lot about parts prices as do a lot of other dealers. We do it because you complain. Most customers with business sense realize they should buy as much as realistically possible from a dealer. Dealers life blood is parts; the brand names depends on parts as well. But the customer is in business. IF a major price differenc is obtainable they should go for it but tell the dealer. I see lots of 'well another dealer went out'. When all us med sized dealers are gone, well the big guys see you as just a customer n and when you call the local parts store and ask why the light on the dash comes on or why the header height doesn't work one finds they only know the hand cleaner is on asile 4. As in most things in life, communication is king.

Deutz parts prices are a problem period. No use sugar coating it. The same parts through Deutz importers are much less. They charge AGCO up the scale towards retail for many items. There have been many importers that have gone by the wayside. They start with Deutz parts and somehow fall out with them for various reasons. Parts such as turbo bolts and gaskets are not built by deutz and are available through good metric hardware books. Gaskets are all standard. Some have sandwich filler insulators and are high through any brand. The cheap ones are stamped.

Years ago before getting into farming, I was an engineer at a large manufacturing business. Apparently, that outfit had a similar parts pricing problem as the one we are talking about because there was a parts price review group consisting of representatives from Engineering, Quality Control, Purchasing and Production Control. The chairman of the group from Marketing would distribute prints of parts he wanted us to review with one question. What would you pay for this partIJ Each of us would submit what we felt was a reasonable price. A few days later there was a report summarizing various recommendations and price corrections. Surprisingly, just as many prices increased as decreased. I would guess AGCO has a similar parts review set up but if they dont, they should.

The most over priced item I found is the drive coupler that hooks the pully to the input shaft on N7 hydro $1500. You can buy the shaft from hydro shop but haven't found the coupler. Dan has a piece to rebuild old one $100 plus machine work.
