Boiler issues

My friend is having problems with their boiler and therefore their furnace. I don't have a lot of details but I know they went through 250 gallons of fuel oil in less than one month. We changed the thermostat thinking maybe it was that, it wasn't. The boiler just keeps shutting off and then produces no hot water to kick the furnace into gear. Anyone have any idea anything about boilers?

I'm no expert on boilers, but it sound like there's something wrong with the aquastat.

Oh no... bad time of year for a furnace not to work. Have they called any professional in to look at it? Last year our motor died in ours but we don't have a boiler furnace. If it wasn't the thermostat it could be some sort of a valve.

Oh no, that doesn't sound good. I hope they can figure it out. If neither of you have any knowledge about boilers I would think it would be cheaper and quicker to have a professional look at it.
