If the serial number is above 49601 it's a F3. F3's came out in 1983. They did have a 1982 F2 that had electric solenoids instead of levers towards the end of the model year. Unless this machine is a total pile of junk it will be worth $4500 or more.

last fall I paid 4000 for a 78 F2 with 4-30_15ft in fair condition.Not a cherry but not junk either.The usual wear spots getting thin.I'd say your seller is in the ball park on price.

The f2 was last made in 82 which had electric solonids instead of hydraulic levers. some of the later f2s were golden harvest editions which had power fold augar and all the rest of the goodies and had tann colored interior. just check for regular wear spots and if its just in need of some TlC and minor fix-ups then it's well worth the $4500.00 Jeff

Do a search on www.dtniron.com or www.deertracs.com for combines. The F3 and the 1982 1_2 F2 will have electric over hydraulic controls with the ability to use a series 3 flex head. The F2's had a cable control(Roper Wright)for the floating header. You might find a F2 like mine that has an electric over hydraulic control called Big Shaver that is basicly what the Gleaner header control system is now. As I said before find a M2 or M3 as you can use 4 or 6 row heads on these and you will have 50% more cleaning area than a F2 or F3. A M or l machine is about 3' longer tha a F and a good l2 can be bought for about the same money as a F3 or M3.

How many acres are we running through or what do you currently run now for combineIJ I have an F3 I like a lot and my son likes running the K (he is 15 his 2nd year). If your boys are of age and like running combines as mine do they prefered the K and K2 because the felt uncomfortable driving a larger one for themselves......just give them a few years! We took pictures this fall of both machines running in our fields together......those are great memories we will have for a long time. I would not run to an M unless I had more than 500 acres to run. I would enjoy the ride unless I felt the need to scarf it all up. F2 nice machine, lots more of them just without some of the extras on an F3..my 2 cents

the price i think depends on the area, here f2 or f3 wont bring much as they are way too small for most farmers. f2 are much easier to find salvage parts as all the parts do not interchange, but many do, several f2 running here , hardly any f3's JD 9500 s abound and being slowly replaced by the newer JD rotary combine, seeing lots of 30' headers too just a thoguht

I went from a k2 to an f3 two years ago. I wanted a more modern 4 row machine so I bought the f3 so I could have a Hydro transmition and the electric header control. They are difficult to find and sometimes bring more money than a good m3. They started making the f3 in 1983 and quit in 1987, the 1986 and 1987 were green stripe machines and are even harder to find. I agree with others that a m3 would be easy to find and will work ok with a 4 row head. Good luck, the m3 was also a green stripe in 1986,87. Check with Sumerix equipment in Michigan, he has both f3 and m3's.
