Jeremy - I seen your post below about you getting hired on for the wheat harvest. I doubt you'll need to be an expert when you start unless you just want to try to impress the boss. He'll probably be the one to set your machine for you to his liking - you just need to follow his orders, be responsible, and treat your combine with respect. You'll pick up on the tricks of the trade as you operate. I've never cut wheat, and we usuallt cut our grain low around here to get more straw for bedding, but I'd guess that they cut just low enough to get enough straw to keep the crop flowing good through the combine. If you just clip the heads, there might not be enough "body" to the crop to promote good feeding. Cutting speed depends on grain loss or sickle performance. Watch the stubble, the Pacer grain loss, and your engine rpm's. Good luck and have fun!
