This is probably a Huff governor and yes the slop in the linkage will make a difference. The Huff is a good general use governor but does wear-out. You can get another one from most industrial engine distributors or your MF_AGCO dealer. It is possible to work on these governors but only to a limited extent. It would be a good idea to look at a Service Manual to see what it says about adjusting the governor. Good luck!
