Combines Model T

The model T is an antique. It is the smallest Gleaner made I think and is an early 50's model. It was dropped in favor of the 100SP.

I got home and had a chance to read up. From Norm Swinfords book; "Allis Chalmers Equipment 1914-1985. The Model T was only built in 1954. With a 23 inch rasp bar and a 28 inch walker seperator the T was about 3_4 the size of the model A. The grain tank was only 30 bushels and the engine was a Ford 172 cubic inch 4 cylinder. There were two models, the T2 (2 rows) and the T3 (3 rows) In 1955 the list price was about $4500.

Went to the sale. Combine was in decent shape, ran...sort of, scour clean on grain tank and extra screens. $2100 for a 50 year old combine! And there were at least 4 bidders that I saw and maybe 4 more that didn't get their hands out of their pockets, me included.

I've noticed this with other, smaller, older machines around here. A collector following is beginning to develop around the old little combines. They don't make new old tractors, and the supply is getting less every year, so the collectors have to find something else to tinker with, I guess. Kinda good, actually, as not all of these machines will be lost to the scrapper.
