With the details of the pending acquisition of Viterra in the news almost every day, it is easy to forget that the day-to-day business must go on, and Viterra is doing just that. In fact, it is still developing and registering new herbicides, with the latest being Momentum.

Momentum, which contains two the respected active ingredients fluroxypyr (the active in Starane) and clopyralid (the active in Lontrel),was designed to control some of the tougher broadleaf weeds you will come across in spring wheat, durum, and barley. Weeds like cleavers, kochia, Canada thistle, and wild buckwheat. However, since the number of weed species controlled by Momentum alone is somewhat limited, most users will need to tank mix Momentum with MCPA ester, 2,4-D ester, or Refine SG to achieve control of the full spectrum of weeds you?re likely to find in most fields. In fact, Viterra has issued a technical sheet that advises growers not to use Momentum alone.

Although Momentum does not control grasses, it can be tank mixed with most of the popular annual grass herbicides, making it fairly easy to design a program to achieve near total weed control.
