Combines How good is a R50IJIJIJ

About the engine... The Deutz air cooled engine is one of the best engines for a combine. I have a 6 in-line 913 with 13000 hours. Just keep the engine clean of dust, I blow every day the cilinders and the oil radiator. Put new turbine fan belts and bearings. look for oil leaks too. If it's a V8 engine i think they don't have belts to move the turbines because is gear driven. Have a nice harvest.

The R50 is a decent, very simple combine. Main things to watch is the engine. A Deutz is a soild engine but do keep them clean. Most of the cooling in my opinion is air going through the oil cooler. KEEP THAT RADIATOR ClEAN. Check the air fan. I usually replaced mine about every 750 engine hours. If the blades are rounded off some they will not move sufficient air. Check the cage to see if the bars and helicals are in good shape. If not, it will require a lot of power to run the material through the cage. Good luck with harvest.

Hey silver bullet... Maybe i don't understand you but... do you replace the cooling dfan every 750 hoursIJ whyIJIJIJIJ My have now 13000 hours the only maintenace i did in the fan is replace the bearings two times... My fan is aluminium built but i have a tractor with a 4 cilinder engine and it's made with plastic. Are there the engines with plastic fansIJ

Sorry about the slow response, Sebas. I haven't checked down this far for a few days. As for your question. I thought our fans were aluminum but they may have been plastic. All I know is that the corners would round off and I would get less air movement then the oil cooler would plug quicker and the fins would collect more dirt on them. After installing new fan, those problems would go away for awile. The dust was abrasive enough to wear the fins away. Surely you run in quite a bit of dust, don't youIJ

Hi silver bullet, Now we're in the barley_wheat season and you can believe me it's all dust, specially in barley. I always had problems with short straw, the fan sucks these straw and it goes on the top of the oil cooler. I have to clean the oil cooler two or three times a day with a brush, if not, the oil gauge goes to red...and the cilinders temp raise up near the red too.

G'Day Guy's Am I allow to suggest a trick that might help, as it's helped us with wheat and barley straw that gets on our radiator!! I don't know the R50 as well as a R62 but if the rotary Screen system is similar then this should still work!IJ!IJ!IJ!IJ Try having a look on the rotary screen and see if you have any air cut off strips that are adjustable just inside the rotary screen, they are there to help the blanking off plate on the inside of the screen. This is to give a dead air flow place on the screen, as it rotates! those cut of plates are meant to be as close as possible to the rotary screen as you can get with out the screen touching them. It can be a bit of a tedious job to adjust ( that's why most of them aren't adjusted!!!!) but it makes one hell of a difference to the the performance of the rotary screen, I've pressured washed our radiator (very carefully) before I used the improved rotary screen, but I've not had the trouble of bits of straw blocking the radiator since. I can also now see ( in the right hand mirror) a small rooster tail coming off the rotary screen when it's on the down wind side, that tells me its working a lot better! PS: I have all of Dan Hurtts rotary screen improvements as well on our screen , but the cut of plates have help the most obviously for us. PPS: A couple of Case Inter guy's have also got there inside cut of plates nice and close to their rotary screens and both have had better results as well! (I can be colour blinded as well!!!!) Thanks Rolf but i'm from europe and i'm not using a R combine. Anyway my combine haven't a rotary screen, the engine sucks the air (for cooling) without any filter. Yesterday i washed the radiator with water presure, put new filter and change oil... today works really cool, well today's temp was below 40 C,hehehe
