We are bringing in the bull, literally. It's time for us to try to impregnate a couple of our cattle. Anyone else doing this now? What's the cost in your neck of the woods?
I don't see any but in my area. We have friends that are a different race than us and they are farmers too. We both were approved for loans and we both got a small grant. I only know of our two farms that did though.
That is great news!! I think community gardens are great! Are you having people bring all kinds of vegetables and having their own area or bring whatever and work on all of the gardens?
Yes, we had a great Easter. The bunny came and left the kiddos lots of goodies. We went to church this morning as a family. It was a beautiful day outside!
Squirrels are such a pain. I know that they need to eat too. Do you know that people actually put up squirrel feeders (like picnic tables) for them? Not me, we try to keep them out of our feeders too.
I would also pool labor and equipment. I think that would be the most beneficial to all of us. I'm not sure I would want to do any of the other choices. I wonder how many other farmers do this?
I think that is a great idea too. What are you going to do, plant a bunch of bulbs and then dig them up and put them into pots? We sell bouquets of wild flowers at our roadside stand.
I just read an article from our Governor that they just legalized recreational marijuana for adult use. I heard some farmers talking about putting in fields of it this spring. We aren't going to jump on that train, but I wonder how many will.
I have never heard of it before. Honesty I don't think I would try to grow it because I don't know if I could sell it. I am going to look into it though.
How is the planning coming along? How early do you have to start planting if everything is new? I can't wait to hear all about it. I know so little about vineyards.
I would say it's a lesson learned then, if it was harder now than it would have been.
We got out all of our planters (flower) over the weekend. I really hope this nice weather is here to stay.
@RichZ That is too funny!
We have a couple of goats. They are a hoot, but I have never given them jobs.
That goat yoga sounds interesting. I will have to look into that.
What is everyone doing now to work your fields? Spring has sprung so I'm interested to see what other farmers have got going on. I don't see a lot of work being done around here yet.
I absolutely love this post! I love gardens, spring, herbs and everything in between. I planted some garlic and thyme yesterday. I can't wait to get everything planted.
It's the same here @ Trubadour. We get some massive wind storms. We actually check the weather before hanging out laundry. One times our sheets flew down to the cow pasture!
I was wondering when this was going to happen. I'm not sure where all of this funding is coming from, for extra child tax credits to SNAP benefits. I'm glad there is help for people that need it.
We planted a few apple trees and one pear tree last spring. They are getting bigger but are still pretty small. About how many years do they have to be in the ground before they produce any fruit? I'm starting to think that we should have planted a couple of pear trees.
Well I have seen the squirrel two times now. I make a ruckus and he runs away. I've got to figure out how to keep him out of the bird feeder. The suet that they are getting is in a feeder that has bird seed and suet on the side.
I think you should if it isn't too expensive. It never fails, something breaks when your warranty runs out. Of course I would read the warranty papers really good to be sure it covers a lot.
