Nope, not yet. It is still quite early here. We have a lot of snow still. I'm hoping that it melts soon. We will probably start our seeds mid March. That seems to be adequate time for them to take root before planting season.
Good steak doesn't need it but I think roast do need some spicing up.
I use garlic for many things. I've never used smoked paprika before. I'll have to look for that in the store. Thanks for the tip!
Oh yeah, I have seen squirrels running around the area where the feeders are. I never thought about them getting it out. I'll have to put a slinky or something on the pole (my parents do this). Hopefully that will stop whatever it is.
Oh, that is creepy! How the heck is the raccoon getting up that high to get it? I have not seen any around the house. I wonder if whatever it is will scare the birds away?
@RichZ Thank you for posting the book. I have looked on Amazon for one and there are way too many to choose from! I'll take a look at this one.
@Holii I love that your daughter is naming the birds. I bet you get a lot more in the spring and summer. It'll be hard to name them all.
I think you could do this with no problem if you have the room. Pigs are easy to raise. I think they are easier than cows. We have milk cows so there is just more work with them. Do you have the extra land?
I've seen some interesting bird posts lately and I love birds. So I have a problem, something is taking the suet out of one of my feeders. I have not caught the culprit yet but I hope to. The birds eat it to about half, and then it's gone. What do you think is getting it?
Yes, we charge a fee too. We are upfront with it too. I want people to compare apples to apples if they are shopping around. If the customer orders over $100, we eat the price.
That is awesome! I bet your pigs love the produce. We don't have any store helping us, but our neighbors do. They love to feed our animals. The kids love to too.
@RichZ what color are they in the winter? I have this app on my phone, I snap a pic and the app tells me what they are. I swore this one bird was a finch but it said tufted titmouse.
We use a thistle mixture and this year we are using those socks.
We built some ground feeders last year. I love blue jays, they are beautiful, but they are "bossy" and messy. They are good too, they chase some predators away. We feed them sunflower seeds too.
Definitely no poison for the reasons they said. The chickens could eat the rats and that would be bad! Let's just hope they don't migrate to your place. Try to keep the chicken feed in a container so the rats can't get into it.
Hulu if you don't have cable. Hulu has most of the regular stations and shows (just a day later). I would be lost without sports so I have cable. Netflix would be my second pick.
What is your go to? Do you find that you season your meat more with spices, a rub or by marinating it? We have been experimenting with all three. We are pretty new to rubs.
We have decided to hire someone to come help with the morning and afternoon chores. How old, really how young, would you hire? We were thinking 15 or 16. They would not have to drive, just help with the animals and stalls.
I would see what the problem is. I agree that you just might not have enough posts to hold it up. I would start there and then decide what to use if that doesn't fix it. We have a lot of snow and our chicken wire is just fine.
Those were some bizarre superstitions. Don't mention pigs or rabbits while on a boat. Your rabbit may come back as the devil? Very very strange. I only read the first couple because to me they were crazy.
Will you be watching the Superbowl on Sunday. Is the team you cheer for in it?
Mine isn't but I will still watch. To be honest I watch it for the commercials. They have been pretty lame the last few years though.
The key is to give it time. You don't always get a lot every year. It takes time and I find that it is one of the most finicky vegetables to grow. I would start from seed instead of plants.
Are you in the tree selling business or are you just having your land logged? I would think if you were in the tree selling business you would have all the paperwork already filed. I would think that the market for trees is a great one right now.
