    Green powered aerator

It really depends on how much water you're trying to aerate and how deep you need it to go. I picked up one at the Tractor Supply store that I've had good luck with. It's made by Airmax.

    Freshwater pond

It would primarily be for personal use. I don't intend to cultivate prawn or open up a fishery. We have a separate property with a small pond. I figured I could make it bigger and stock it with fish. You're right about them being expensive to source. Thanks for clueing me in before I got to...

In 1 word describe your weekend?

Hot! There's a big heat wave coming through and we're all feeling it. Even the goats are sluggish instead of their usual playful selves. @FaithBean, I'm glad you got some rest. We all need a chance to recharge now and then.

    Time for cookouts

A good cut of beef and portabella mushrooms are my favorites. The kids just want hot dogs. Endless hot dogs. @vincenzosassone, we have a similar setup outside and it took me a while to get the balance right. It definitely takes practice.

    Regulating the Uses of Citrus

Some plants thrive in acidic soil, like blueberries and radishes. Just grate some orange peels up, work them into the soil around those acid loving plants, and you should see an improvement over time.

    Freshwater pond

I'm looking to make a 1-acre freshwater pond, largely because I already have most of the supplies and equipment which I don't want to waste. I'd like to make something that is self-sustainable if possible, so I'm going to start with prawn since they're delicious and they'll help keep the pond...

    Marek's disease

Yep, that was it. The speaker is a popular breeder in my area. I signed up just to see what it was about, because an expert trying to cure Marek's means I'd want to start buying fertile eggs/chicks differently than usual to steer clear. I'm happy to report that I misinterpreted the class...

    Spooked by firecrackers?

How do your animals handle the loud whistles and pops? I usually turn mine out to pasture during the day, but I keep them up during the first week of July out of fear that they'll run off or get injured while trying to escape the "threat". I might be overreacting though. I've observed them...

    Helping the unhelpful

I can't say that I've ever kept score. I don't expect anything back after doing a favor anyway. Maybe that's because I only help someone if I truly want to and not because I feel like I have some familial or societal obligation to do so.

    Country vs. city

Country life versus city life - what do you love or miss about each one? When I lived in a large city up north, we had expensive taxes and it was noisy, but boy do I miss the city water and sewer that I had back then. I love living out in the country in Florida, but I'm not fond of septic...

    Best value for family meat?

I haven't raised them myself, but I've heard that meat rabbits are the best bet. My neighbor seems to do pretty good with his. They breed readily, give birth easily, and mature quickly. They're also easy to process at home.

    Aggressive Chickens

Usually when that happens, the problem is overcrowding. Make sure there's enough room so there'll be less stress. The chickens are going to establish a pecking order. Subtle changes to the flock can really rock the boat sometimes. Have you added any new chickens lately? Have you subtracted any?

    Marek's disease

Thankfully, I've never had to deal with Marek's disease in my flock. My understanding is that it's impossible to cure, so the best thing is to cull those birds. However, I noticed a sign-up sheet at the local feed store for a class about helping your flock recover from the disease. Has the...

Did you buy or make your coop?

Have you guys seen the price of lumbar lately? Building my own is definitely out. Lumber is priced at a premium. I've decided to make do with the one I recently bought for now. I pitched a tarp over it so that the coop can still vent without allowing any water in. The tarp is staked down...

    Tractor pull

That's cool. It's been a while since I've taken the kids to one. I need to look into that because they had a blast last time. I'll have to tell them that I "know" someone on the inside, @Farmallh. I wish you tons of luck at your event.

    RIP to My Tundra

Cheers to your Miss Sally, Marty. I still have my old Jeep Cherokee. It drives great off-road and there's plenty of space for hauling stuff inside. It's not in mint condition by any means. The radio is wonky and one of my windows is being held up by tape, but it still drives good. I run it...

    Who Should Host Jeopardy?

I like what they're doing now, which is rotating through a number of hosts every few days. Dr. Oz did the best job so far in my opinion. However, I think he pushes useless and sometimes even dangerous ideas on his medical talk show, so I'd hate for him to become the official host. It would...

    Check That Sump Pump

Yeah, I need to do that. I've been so busy during planting season that I let it slide. @Urban Homestead, nothing about septic tanks or sewer systems is pleasant. Bless the folks who work on them regularly.

    Before Pesticides

I believe the early farmers did use a version of pesticides. They were derived from roots, herbs, and other natural things. Over time these stopped being effective because the bugs naturally evolved to become resistant. More severe pesticides came along and the same thing happened eventually...

    Adding weight to a Disc

No matter what, I've never been able to get it perfect. I either leave it alone or go back through manually and fix it. I'm not a fan of the process.
